Immigrant Worker Center Finds Ways to Support Workers through Online Drop-In

Untitled design

Every Wednesday at 4pm, you can find MassCOSH Worker Center staff online using a combination of Zoom and Facebook Live with about 40 workers, our solution to the in-person drop-in hours that we have placed on pause. By combining these technologies, we are able to meet workers using platforms on which they are most comfortable. These drop-in hours have been a critical resource for workers seeking custom advice and resources when their rights have been violated – with some resulting in court proceedings that won workers tens of thousands of dollars to individuals feeling so grateful for their assistance that they become new MassCOSH board members.

Currently, the Worker Center has seen an uptick in restaurants and construction workers joining our meetings, two industries that have been hard hit by the pandemic. During these meetings, workers learn about their rights but also learn about MassCOSH’s tool kit for essential workers, benefits that may be available to them, testing sites in their areas, and breaking coronavirus news.

For more information on these weekly calls, or to refer workers in need of support, contact MassCOSH Immigrant Worker Center Director Milagros Barreto at milagros.barreto@masscosh.org.
