​TL@W Takes Next Steps to Improve Hot Schools

With schools closed and job sites shuttered, teenagers around the country have found themselves at home struggling to continue their education and going without income. However, our Teens Lead @ Work (TL@W) peer leaders are part of a lucky few who are able to work from home Monday through Thursday, receiving their normal pay working on existing projects and campaigns under the direction of MassCOSH Youth Programs Director Jenny Fernandez.

Earlier this month, TL@W held a strategy meeting and training with the Boston Student Action Coalition (BSAC), their partner in the Too Hot to Learn campaign. They reviewed the initial results of a survey they designed to collect information regarding the effects of hot classrooms on students, teachers, and staff and their preferred mitigation strategies.

BSAC agreed to help TL@W promote the survey to gather even more of this critical data. Next steps include creating a fact sheet based on survey results and to plan meetings with Boston Public Schools leadership, including Superintendent Dr. Brenda Cassellius.
