Dying for Work Report 2025: Dangerous Jobs Killed 69 Workers in Massachusetts Last Year
Much like the rest of the country, with the gutting of federal programs critical to occupational safety and health, Massachusetts faces a perilous road ahead for workers. Between the decimation of NIOSH (which funds almost 75% of the Occupational Health Surveillance Program at MA DPH), the weakening of the National Labor Relations Board, the closing of regional OSHA offices such as the North Andover location, as well as the current dangers facing immigrant communities across the country, we are seeing a blatant attack on all workers from the Federal government. Even with these programs in place last year, Massachusetts workers still died on the job at an alarming rate. In the year to come, it is more important than ever that our Commonwealth rise up to meet these threats to occupational health and safety head on and fight to ensure every worker returns home alive and well each day, says a new report documenting the loss of life taking place at worksites across Massachusetts.
