Trainings Heat Up in Brockton

Last month, MassCOSH Director of Policy and Programs, Al Vega, joined with the Massachusetts Labor Guild and the Brockton Workers Alliance for two Saturday’s worth of trainings for low-wage workers. The Labor Guild is one of many MassCOSH faith-based partners and can trace its roots back to the Great Depression, where church-sponsored classes were launched in urban and industrial cities across the country to educate religious workers about their legal rights on the job. Working with the Brockton Workers Alliance, the two organizations found that workers in their area were interested in learning from MassCOSH more about their rights on the job, how they can stay safe when working in hot environments, and how they can organize around heat stress for better working conditions. The two trainings covered the same topics but were held in English the first Saturday and in Spanish the next week.

MassCOSH offers a variety of trainings to unionized and non-unionized workers in multiple languages. Our most popular trainings at the moment include COVID-19 workplace safety and worker safety in extreme heat.
