LEAPS 2013

Join us for our 6th Annual LEAPS Youth Conference being held April 16th-18th.

LEAPS is a FREE 3-day, 2-night conference held in the Boston area during April High School vacation week for teens throughout Eastern Massachusetts, who have an interest in health and safety in the workplace. Teens are encouraged to create teams of 4-6 youth and also have an adult advisor who will attend the Academy with them. Accommodations and meals are provided for the adult advisor and teen participants.

This year the 6th Annual LEAPS Conference will be held April 16th-18th in Dorchester, MA and will be hosted by Local Union 1199 SEIU! 1199 SEIU Health Workers United East is located at 150 Mount Vernon St. Dorchester, MA 02125. All participants will be staying at the Boston Comfort Inn located at 900 William T. Morrissey Blvd. Dorchester, MA 02122.

At LEAPS, the youth engage in workshops led by our teen peer leaders on health and safety in the workplace, workplace violence prevention, worker safety, workers’ rights, sexual harassment in the workplace, youth & union organizing, and community action.

We also assist teams with creating action plans from the topics presented at the Academy to take back to their communities and implement.
Past plans have included: Brochures and public service announcements played in high schools on health and safety, “health & safety” fashion shows to educate peers about different jobs’ personal protective gear, and resource tables at high schools.
 
Each attendee receive a $50 stipend at the end of LEAPS to assist with their community action plan!
